Alice Springs  - Situated in the center of Australia is one of it's most famous towns - Alice Springs. A dot on the landscape until the great gold rush of the 1880's, it has become a destination for visitors to this interesting town surrounded by deserts in the Great Australian Outback.  It is an adventurer's delight to visit Uluru (Ayers Rock), The Olgas and other wonders of the Outback. Brisbane - Australia's 3rd largest city with 1.5 million is located on the central east coast, Brisbane, the capital of Queensland, has the largest sanctuary of koala bears. It also happens to be near some of the most beautiful beaches on the Gold Coast about 80 miles to the south.  Not much in the way of other special attractions, Brisbane does have a large number of Colonial buildings and Victorian architecture.  Winters are mild and the summers hot and sticky.  Hotels and resorts in Brisbane

Cairns  - The jump off spot for the Great Barrier Reef, Cairns is now one of the most famous tourist destinations with the tropical look of palm, banana, and mangrove trees.  Cairns also offers great marlin fishing and other great nautical game fish.  Of course, the Great Barrier Reef, the largest in the world, offers unparalleled 100's of miles of diving and snorkeling.  Nearby are the Atherlands, Mount Whitfield Environmental Park, and Cape York.  Hotels and resorts in Cairns

Canberra  - Although the capital of Australia, Canberra is out shown by the more scenic Sydney to it's north but Canberra does have Lake Burley Griffin that has become the centerpiece of the city.  Open spaces and parks abound around the city and lake making it easy get around.  Because it is the capital, Canberra has many government, museums, and cultural buildings with the city servants and administrators accompanied by the various service industries that surround such activities.  The nightlife from the government activities and two universities has a lively reputation.  Visit the National Gallery and the New Parliament House.  Hotels and resorts in Canberra

Melbourne  - Australia's second largest city with more than three million people has probably the most diverse cultures in the country.  There are large communities of Greeks, Vietnamese, Lebanese, Chinese, and Italians bringing a melting pot of cultures.  In fact, Melbourne has the second largest population of Greeks in the world behind Athens in the mother country! The city is going through a major redevelopment program along with the old waterfront transforming itself into a new city of hotels, office buildings, apartments, and a major shopping destination.  Places to visit: Queen Victoria Market,  Melbourne Museum, Fitzroy Gardens, and the Melbourne Aquarium.  And just a hope, step, and a jump from Melbourne is the world famous island of Tasmania.    Hotels and resorts in Melbourne

Sydney - Declared one of the world's most beautiful cities, Sydney goes a long way in proving it.  Located on the southeastern coast and venue of the 2000 Olympics, Sydney has always been a destination place with its scenery, beaches, culture, buildings, and metropolitan size but country sprawling atmosphere.  It's home of the spectacular Sydney Opera House and the beautiful Harbour Bridge connecting the two halves of the city.  Not far away are the golden beaches of Bondi Bay and Tamarama Bay for swimmers and north of the center the Central Coast for surfers.  Inland is the Hunter Valley and the Blue Mountains for scenery of a higher level for scenic lookouts and hiking.  Hotels and resorts in Sydney | Sydney Weather
